Solar Radiation In The UK
This map from the European Commission shows incidental Solar Radiation in the UK over the course of one year. The performance of any Solar system will depend on the amount of sunlight that shines on the modules or collectors.
On average, every horizontal square meter of the UK receives solar energy between 750w and 1,100 kWh each year. Some of this energy is received as direct sunlight and some is diffuse sunlight scattered by clouds, the atmosphere and reflected by surrounding objects.
All MCS accredited installers will provide a SAP calculation outlining an estimate of the energy in kW that any given system will annually produce.
The SAP calculation uses national averages, and as you can see from the map, any Solar PV or Solar Thermal system in the South West of England should outperform any equivalent system elsewhere in the UK. It is generally the case that actual performance of systems in the South West will exceed estimated national standard performance calculations.
