A property in Dartmoor National Park with a 4.0 kW Photovoltaic installation is emphasising the return on investment that is often generated with a Solar Photovoltaic installation.

One very happy Enlighten customer produced 194 kWh during the last ten days of April this year, only a few days after the installation of the 16 Sharp Solar PV panels was completed on the property situated in Dartmoor National Park. A further 500 kWh was then produced throughout May, resulting in an astounding £312 tax free income in only the first 6 weeks of this installation. Meaning the SAP average of 3000 kWh per annum should be far exceeded, while the return on investment could surpass £1381 in the 12 months from installation.

Lit by 7w LED Lamps

New Toilet Facilities in the main complex.

These facilities have a total of about 85 downlights which if using traditional 50w tungsten halogen lamps would be burning a total of 4250 watts.  By utilising 7w LED lamps we have reduced the energy consumption to the equivalent of 595 watts for the facility, a staggering 86% reduction.

Equally importantly in a facility which is in use for 18 hours a day, 8 months of the year, maintenance costs are reduced with the LED lamps offering a lifetime of up to 40000 hrs compared to its GU10 tungsten equivalent of only 4000 hrs.

We would like to thank Ian Stuart from Devon & Cornwall Home Inspectors for spending sometime with us yesterday.  We had some great conversation discussing both recent developments and proposed policies effecting the renewable energy market and equally importantly the encouragement of energy efficiency within our buildings.

It is clear, that there are economic benefits and incentives available for both householders and commercial businesses that are willing to re-assess their relationship with energy.  So what not take a closer look at your energy use and what better place to start, than with a visit from an Energy Performance Assessor.

Simple – LED’s Reduce Energy Consumption, Maintenance & Save Money

We are increasingly installing LED lamps as standard in both commercial and residential installations.  The benefits to the consumer are many and with more quality products coming to market there are LED alternatives now available to retro-fit to many standard light fittings.

So there is no need to wait for a major refurbishment, to start saving.  Ask us now to carryout an assessment of your current lighting and see if we can help you seeing the benefits or check out some of the products will be adding to the blog.

Just returned from the Regen South West Renewable Market Place at Westpoint.  I would say this was a resounding success, nearly 1200 people though the doors including delegates from commercial enterprise, agriculture, private developers and general householders.

A well executed day of guest speakers and seminars running alongside the traditional marketplace of trade exhibitors.

There appeared to be considerable interest in the Department of Energy and Climate Change who took one of the morning sessions outlining the ‘Feed in Tariff’ and the current Fast Track Review of Large scale Solar Photovoltaic installations.

Personally, I spent the day assisting ‘Devon Fires’  a local Woodbury based company who were exhibiting, and whom, we regularly work with on solid fuel hot water & heating system installations.

Almost Self Sufficient!

A 3.1kW Solar PV Installation in an old mill cottage, Devon.
The property was off main grid gas and water, and although connected to the electrical nation grid, this system will contribute towards the owners energy self-sufficiency.
